Creating Temporary Galleries

One way of keeping empty units active until a new tenant moves in is to create temporary art galleries. These present the opportunity for local artists to feature their work in prominent locations, engaging the public whilst contributing to the vitality of the town centre. As the artwork is locally produced it helps to add to the distinctiveness of your high street. There may be opportunities to work with local colleges, universities, or even advertise museum exhibits through high quality photographic reproductions in windows.

In some cases the unattended gallery can only be viewed from outside, in others the shop is open and the artworks are for sale, with some a hybrid opening limited hours with a website, QR code or NFC tag clearly displayed for potential customers when the shop is closed. By creating a partnership often involving property agents, landlords and artists, this type of scheme can have a really strong impact in towns of any size.
